Job Interview Through Phone: 5 Preparation Tips

Job interview done through the phone is something prevalent. It can be a screening effort before proceeding to the next step, or it can be the decision making step. Here are 5 tips that I like to share which land me the second, face-to-face interview.

5 tips to prepare for a job interview over the phone

Tip #1: Seek Divine Support

I put this on top of this list because I really seek spiritual support before the interview. I don't know your level of religious belief, but it doesn't matter as long as you explore its assistance. Don't just limit asking help when you have a special occasion only. Make it part of your life and do it consistently.

Tip #2: Get Enough Sleep

The reliable performance calls for a combination of mental and physical. You have sought divine help, and now you want to play your part of putting your best foot forward. You can start by getting good, and enough eye's shut. It helps significantly in clear thinking. If you're not healthy, the other party can sense it too.

Tip #3: Find Out What You Can About The Other Party

It came to no surprise when the second question I was asked during the phone interview was, "What do you know about the position you're applying?" I did expect this question to come up but not that early. But when you're prepared, it just runs smoothly.

Tip #4: Find Your Spot

When I was waiting for my interviewer to call, I was thinking of doing it at home. The time that we've agreed was quite early in the morning, so I thought that home was the ideal place. But I did some thinking, and later I choose to take the call in my car in front of my favorite breakfast place. I told myself, no matter how this turnout, I deserve a good cup of my favorite black coffee. A small self-reward (and it's motivating too).

Tip #5: Don't Get Overly Concerned With The Outcome

During the whole one-hour phone interview session, I just act like I have a face to face interaction. I imagined how my interviewer would react to my answer, and most importantly, I was very much aware of how I behave although my interviewer could not see me. I act as if we're just sitting across each other. I did all that and forget all the rest. I only focus on answering the questions. And I reward myself with my favorite cup of coffee afterward.

Getting past the phone interview is an integral part of the whole job interview process. Many people are taking this process lightly or becoming overly worried about how they would perform. With these five tips, I have the confidence that anybody can ace any job phone interview and move on to the next process.
