How To Gain Pharmaceutical Sales Experience When No One Is Opening Up To You?

We've just finished our discussion on three things that make Pharma sales training useful. The last article is actually the final part of a 3 part article. If you go back to that one article, you'll be linked to the previous ones which I highly recommend that you look into all of them.

You'll be glad that you do ...

Now, this article today talks about what takes place long before you get into training. It talks about how you can fill in the blank when a potential pharmaceutical employer asks about your experience, particularly sales experience.

This is a typical case of 'the problem is with them, not me.' A wise man once said that "One finger pointing at others, three fingers pointing back at you."

So how do we get over the problem of no one is willing to give us the taste of pharmaceutical selling?

12 years ago, after graduating from college, I found myself wandering around town looking for jobs.
I wanted to make money, lots of it, so I've decided to get into sales. I was lead to believe, through my reading, that sales profession can be the best avenue to earn tons of money.

I finally end up with a sales position, known as product specialist, with a multinational pharma company. My career in pharmaceutical sales begins.

I Begin With No Experience

Notice how I got started?

I just came out of college, and that's all I have.

I know nobody who works in the pharmaceutical industry. I never had any contact with any company.

I just had a burning desire to make money through sales job.

That's all I know, and if nobody is willing to give me any experience, that's alright with me because I was determined to make it on my own. I'm going to say the same thing to those who seek pharmaceutical sales experience but not doing a single something about it.

Look, the experience would not come rolling to your feet. You've got to roll up your sleeve and get out there.

No One Knows What You Want

Do you know what you want?

If you answer YES, then that's good.

If you answer NO, then how do you expect others to know what you want?

We're living in a world where you need to tell people what you want and work your way towards that. Things just not happen or exist for no reason. You need to claim them.

The Solution is Simply to Go Out and Claim It

Start somewhere.

Company or people would not serve any type of experience for you on a platter.

But the good news is: you get to decide what you want, and you can go out to claim it.

If you've been to a job interview with pharmaceutical companies, and they want experienced candidates while you have none, keep looking.

Do not cover your backside and make up your experience to get the job.

Imagine the consequences if your cover is blown up.

Ugly, is it not?

Remember, if no one is willing to provide you with the experience of pharmaceutical sales job, keep moving and start claiming what's yours.

You don't need their approval when you succeed.
